Stolen Firearm Recovered – Daniel JAMES Facing Several Charges

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an Exeter resident with several offences connected to a break, enter and theft that took place in Exeter last week.

On Friday, May 15, 2020 the victim reported to police someone entered into his Saunders Street home and stole a rifle along with some ammunition. As it turned out police had received a call earlier in the day from a witness that reported seeing someone walking down Victoria Street West with a rifle and a box of ammunition. At that point in time the suspect was spoken to however he denied any knowledge of the firearm.

Following some additional investigation police returned and spoke with the suspect. This time the suspect was arrested and a search was conducted. The stolen rifle and ammunition were recovered.

Daniel JAMES, 23 years of age, from Exeter has been charged with Break & Enter, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 19, 2020.

Huron OPP would like to remind firearms owners that it is their legal duty and responsibility to safely and securely store firearms and ammunition in their possession.
