LONDON, ON (April 28, 2020) A Guelph man was arrested after resisting arrest and allegedly purposefully coughing in the direction of officers over the weekend.
On Saturday, April 25, 2020, at approximately 7:15 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call in relation to a disturbance outside a residence on Stuart Street.
A man was arrested for breach of recognizance, and during the course of the arrest, he attempted to struggle with and pull away from officers. He intentionally began coughing in the direction of the officers faces, stating he had the coronavirus. While being placed in the back of the police cruiser, the man kicked in the direction of police.
One of the responding officers sustained minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Eusebio M. Da Costa, 57, of Guelph is charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
Resist arrest;
Two counts of assault a peace officer; and
Fail to comply with release conditions.
The accused was scheduled to appear in London court yesterday in relation to this matter.
