Update: Fatal Snowmobile Collision Near Ethel – Name Of 14 Year Old Deceased Released

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team continue to investigate a fatal snowmobile crash that occurred last night southeast of Ethel.

On February 10, 2020, at approximately 8:46 p.m., members from the Huron County & Perth County OPP Detachments, Huron County Paramedic Services and Grey Township Fire Department responded to a report of a crash involving two snowmobiles located on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail between Krauter Line and Henfryn Line.

The preliminary investigation indicates the two snowmobile operators were travelling together on a marked trail when the lead operator attempted to cross over a drainage ditch. The lead operator misjudged the location of the marked crossover and entered into a steep ditch. At that point the rear operator followed the lead snowmobile off the marked trail and into the steep ditch whereupon a collision ensued between the two snowmobiles.

The lead operator was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The rear operator sustained minor injuries in the crash and was later released from hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Taylor LONG, 14 years of age from Huron East.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today.
