(WEST PERTH, ON) – A West Perth resident has been scammed out of $3000 after receiving phone calls that appeared legitimate.
The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted on May 8 2020, after the victim received phone calls from a telephone company and a bank, advising that the victim’s bank card had been compromised. The victim verified banking information over the phone, which allowed the scammers access to accounts, where the money was removed.
The OPP would like to remind residents to never provide any personal information or banking information over the phone, even if the caller sounds legitimate. If you are in doubt, hang up, and contact your bank institution to verify.
