Repeat Offender Arrested For Drunk Driving After Throwing Gun In Bushes – LUND

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A Georgetown resident is facing a number of charges after he was caught breaking a bunch of laws this past weekend in Dashwood.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on July 4, 2020 an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR patrol in the village of Dashwood when a sport utility vehicle was observed travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. A RADAR unit was used to measure the speed of the vehicle and it was found to be travelling at a speed in excess of 100 km/h in the posted 50 km/h zone.

Upon stopping the driver he exited his vehicle and quickly ran behind a business in an attempt to avoid the officer. The officer quickly caught up with the driver and he was taken into custody. During the course of the investigation a witness alerted the officer the accused had abandoned a firearm by tossing it in the bushes. Officers conducted a search and were able to seize an air pistol.

Additionally, while speaking with the accused, officers noted the driver had been drinking alcohol so a roadside test was conducted and the accused registered a fail. The accused was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment and provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were found to be over the legal limit.

Further checks revealed the accused was currently prohibited from driving and was bound by court conditions to not possess any weapons.

Brian LUND, 22 years of age from Georgetown has been charged with:

Race a Motor Vehicle

Operation While Prohibited

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Fail to Comply with a Release Order

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
