(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On January 7, 2020, North Perth OPP received a complaint from a Listowel resident that a package had been stolen from their front porch. The notice from the delivery company stated the package had been dropped off shortly after 2:00 pm.
The OPP is warning residents that thieves will target parcels left at someone’s home when they are not available to accept them.
The OPP recommends that anyone placing an order online to have a better idea when the package will arrive and be home when it is delivered. If this is not an option, Police suggest having a friend or a trusted neighbour be around to accept the delivery or pick it up for safekeeping.
Installing a motion-detecting security camera that records video is also an option that homeowners can consider.
Even though the holiday season has concluded, thieves will take advantage of the opportunity to steal a package from a front porch.
If you are a victim of a parcel theft, call the OPP and the shipping company. Witnesses of a theft or suspicious activity are asked to call Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at http://hc-cs.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward up to $2,000.
