Impaired Driver Arrested In Exeter – BEATTIE

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A traffic stop by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) late last night has resulted in criminal charges against a South Huron resident.

At approximately 11:37 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was patrolling in Exeter when he observed the driver of a sport utility vehicle operating his vehicle in an erratic manner on Main Street North. A traffic stop was initiated to check on the driver and while speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver to be under the influence of a drug.

A roadside Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted and the driver performed poorly. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation.

The driver was then transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for an evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). At the end of the evaluation the DRE determined the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.

Justin BEATTIE, 38 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Operation, Speeding & Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence. The accused has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
