Hit And Run Driver Reports Vehicle Stolen – TAIT Charged

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A Central Huron resident’s tale about his vehicle being stolen evidently didn’t add up and as a result he is now facing charges for misleading police with their investigation.

On Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at approximately 6:06 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call about a pickup truck that had been stolen while the driver was inside a convenience store. Subsequent investigation led officers to Wildlife Line near Hydro Line Road where they recovered the vehicle disabled in a ditch.

With the assistance from West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Canine investigators were able to determine the vehicle hadn’t been stolen rather it had been abandoned by the owner following a collision.

As a result, Huron OPP has charged Murray TAIT, 24 years of age from Central Huron with Public Mischief, Fail to Remain and Fail to Report Accident. He has a court appearance scheduled for September 7, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
