Drunk Driver Flagged Down Officer Now Facing Several Charges

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid a handful of criminal charges against a young driver from Central Huron following an incident that took place in Goderich earlier this week.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on October 14, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was on Cameron Street when a driver got out of her vehicle and flagged down the officer looking for directions. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer had reason to believe the driver had been drinking alcohol so a demand for a roadside sample was given to the driver.

The driver ultimately refused to provide a roadside sample and as soon as the officer attempted to arrest the driver she resisted arrest and tried unsuccessfully to escape custody. The driver was transported back to the Clinton Detachment for processing where she continued to be uncooperative with officers. At one point the driver assaulted one of the officers, as well she attempted to disarm the officer of his conducted energy weapon.

A check on the accused also revealed she was failing to comply with a condition of her undertaking as she had consumed some alcohol.

Chelsea HOGGART, 21 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Impaired Operation, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, Assault a Peace Officer, Disarming a Peace Officer and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.

She has since been released custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 7, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
