Dog Rescued From House Fire – 23 Year Old Charged With Arson, Breach & Injury To Animal – NOTHOF

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against a Goderich resident in connection with a house fire that occurred in Goderich last week.

At approximately 12:52 a.m. on July 24, 2020 Huron County OPP & Goderich Fire Department responded to a single dwelling house fire located on Bennett Street East. Upon arrival Goderich Fire Department was able to control the fire and ultimately get it extinguished. Police officers also rescued a large dog that was trapped in the basement of the home.

Preliminary estimates indicate the damages to the home to be around $100,000.

Members from the Huron OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit assisted the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) with this investigation.

As a result of the investigation police have arrested and charged 23-year-old Eugen NOTHOF with the following charges:

Arson – Damage to Property

Cause damage or injury to animal – Fail to provide care or shelter

Fail to Comply with Probation Order – Two Counts

He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 30, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
