(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A traffic stop by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) last week has resulted in criminal charges against a Kincardine resident.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 1, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was patrolling on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway just north of Bayfield when the officer came across a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the road. A traffic stop was initiated to check on the driver and while speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver to be possibly under the influence of a drug.
A roadside Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted and the driver performed poorly. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and a search was conducted. The subsequent search resulted in police locating a quantity of suspected drugs.
The driver was then transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for an evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). At the end of the evaluation the DRE determined the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.
Donald FERGUSON, 51 years of age, from Kincardine has been charged with Impaired Operation, Possession of a Schedule I Substance & Possession of a Schedule II Substance. The accused has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 13, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
