Wellington OPP Weekly Update

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On March 12, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Brock Rd. South, Puslinch. At approximately 8:00 a.m., the driver of a white hatchback was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old driver from Guelph, was charged with Improper Muffler contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 12, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on the Eramosa-Erin Townline. At approximately 8:30 a.m., the driver of a silver coupe was observed passing unsafely. As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old driver from Erin, was charged with Attempt to Pass – Roadway Not Clear – Overtaking Traffic and Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 16 19, 2024.

On March 12, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Nichol Township. At approximately 11:00 a.m., the driver of a grey minivan was observed traveling well above the 80 kilometre per hour speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old driver from Hamilton, was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 13, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on McQueen Blvd. Fergus. At approximately 1:45 a.m., an unfit grey sedan was observed travelling on the roadway. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old driver from Fergus, was charged with Operate Unsafe Vehicle, Drive Without Authorized an Accompanying Driver, Drive Motor Vehicle No Permit, Drive Motor Vehicle Failed to Display Two Plates, and two counts of Drive While Passenger Under 16 Fails to Properly Wear Seatbelt, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Fail to Have Insurance card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court –  Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 13, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Mapleton. Approximately 4:45 p.m., the driver of a white sport utility vehicle was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old driver from Mount Forest, was charged with Driving While Under Suspension, Drive Motor Vehicle No Currently Valid Permit and Failed to Notify Change of Address, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Operating Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 13, 2024, at approximately 6 45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Sideroad 5, Erin. As a result of the investigation, Justin REIS CABRAL, 32-years-old of Brampton, was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on April 5, 2024.

On March 14, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was morning traffic on Wellington Road 109, Minto. At approximately 10:15 a.m., the driver of a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old driver from Acton, was charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 15, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Woolwich Guelph Townline, Guelph/Eramosa. It was reported that a grey sedan had left the roadway. As a result of the investigation, Ankit Ramanlal PATEL, 41-years-old of Guelph/Eramosa, was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on May 17, 2024.

On March 15, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a white minivan on Wellington Road 34, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, Robert George HALLORAN, 62-years-old of Weland, was charged with Operate While Prohibited Under contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with two counts of Driving While Suspended, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, on May 17, 2024.

On March 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Laird Road West, Puslinch. At approximately 12:45 a.m., the driver of a white sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 60 kilometer per hour speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 58-year-old driver from Kitchener, was charged with Driving Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Sideroad 10 South, Puslinch. At approximately 2:30 a.m., the member attempted to stop the driver of a white sport utility vehicle. The driver refused to stop for police. As a result of the investigation, Kieran Steven MELIA, 22-years-old of Puslinch, was charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed, Disobey Stop Sign, Drive Left of Centre – Approaching Crest of Grade, Drive Without Proper Rear Lights, and Improper Number Plate Light, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on May 10, 2024.

On March 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Nichol Twp. At approximately 3:00 a.m., the driver of a silver sedan was observed driving erratically. As a result of the investigation, Walter Madeaus BROOKS, 31-years-old of Orangeville, was charged with Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, on April 2, 2024.

On March 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Nichol Twp. At approximately 7:00 a.m., the driver of a white sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80 kilometre per hour speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old driver from Guelph, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Performed Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

On March 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Wellington North. At approximately 9:45 a.m., the driver of a black sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 73-year-old driver from Walkerton, was charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 19, 2024.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired – B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
