(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – A 26-year-old Woodstock resident is lucky to be alive after a frightening incident early this morning.
Just after 3:30 a.m. on February 22, 2021, members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County Paramedic Services and a local volunteer fire department responded after it was reported that a snowmobile had broken through the ice on a pond in Blandford-Blenheim Township, at an unknown location. The driver had become separated from friends they were travelling with, when the driver crossed a pond. The snowmobile broke through the ice, and sunk in the water, but the driver was able to self-rescue.
After searching the area for over two hours, police located the driver just before 6:00 a.m. just outside of Innerkip. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
