Shots Fired Into Residence – Suspects At Large

Waterloo Region, Ontario  Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a shooting incident in Kitchener.

On January 9, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police responded to reports of property damage at a residence in the area of Howe Drive and Ottawa Street South.

Several holes were located on the side of the home. Through investigation, it was determined that the holes were caused by bullets.

Investigators believe that the shots that damaged the residence were fired around 3:30 a.m. on January 9, 2025. The residence was occupied at the time, but no physical injuries were sustained.

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ General Investigations Unit, and there will be an increased police presence in the area throughout the day.

Another Pedestrian Run Down

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in North Dumfries Township.

On January 2, 2025, at approximately 6:10 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a collision on Wrigley Road near Dumfries Road.

A pedestrian was struck from behind by a vehicle heading east on Wrigley Road as she jogged east on the east side of the road. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

The pedestrian, a 22-year-old female, was transported to an out-of-region hospital by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The involved vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured SUV.

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ Traffic Services Unit.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again, Meth A Factor

Waterloo Region  Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) arrested a male and seized drugs after locating a stolen vehicle in Kitchener.

On December 31, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers were on proactive patrol in the area of Victoria Street North and Forfar Avenue and located an unoccupied stolen vehicle. Shortly after, police observed a male approach the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, officers seized suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, a taser, and multiple cell phones.

A 30-year-old Kitchener was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to order
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of suspected methamphetamine
  • Fail to comply with court order

The male was held for a bail hearing.

Armed Robbery

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a robbery in Cambridge.

On December 30, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to a report of a commercial robbery in the area of Fanklin Boulevard and Elgin Street North.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m. An unknown male entered the business and threatened staff with an edged weapon. The took merchandise and fled the store.

There are no reports of any physical injuries.

Another Pedestrian Collision

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a collision in Kitchener involving a pedestrian.

On December 29, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., emergency services responded to the area of Frederick Street and Bruce Street regarding a collision.

A 58-year-old Kitchener female was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection.

The female was transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Swatting Incident In Waterloo

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a swatting call in Cambridge.

On December 29, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Burnett Avenue and Saginaw Parkway after receiving a call threatening to commit acts of violence.

Through the investigation, officers determined that the call was a false report intended to initiate an emergency response.

There are no ongoing concerns for public safety.

The investigation remains ongoing by members of the General Investigations Unit.

Sawed-Off Shot Gun & Meth Bust

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Neighbourhood Policing South Division seized weapons, drugs, and arrested two individuals in relation to a stolen vehicle investigation in Cambridge.

On December 24, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers were on proactive patrol on Hespeler Road and located an unoccupied stolen 2023 Toyota Tundra parked in a hotel parking lot. Through investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Toronto in a reprogramming theft. Shortly after, police observed two individuals approach the vehicle and placed them both under arrest.

Through the investigation, officers seized suspected fentanyl, hydromorphone and methamphetamine. A sawed-off shotgun, three edged weapons, ammunition, multiple cellphones and reprogrammable keys were also seized.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old male and a 36-year-old female, both from Thunder Bay, were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon (four counts)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (five counts)
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Utter forged document
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000

The male was also charged with:

  • Possession of device for purpose of committing theft (two counts)
  • Possession firearm or weapon, contrary to prohibition order

Both individuals were held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Male Charged For Multiple Break & Enters

Waterloo Region, Ontario  Waterloo Regional have charged a male in connection to multiple commercial break-and-enters.

Between December 9 and 10, 2024, a male broke into four businesses in Waterloo Region, one on Sydney Street in Kitchener and three in Cambridge, on Eagle Street, Hespeler Road and Holiday Inn Drive.

In each of the break-ins, a rock was used to smash a glass door and gain entry, and property and cash were stolen.

WRPS’ Break, Enter, and Vehicle Theft Team subsequently identified the male and determined he had been arrested in Guelph on December 11, 2024, after breaking into a business.

As a result of the investigation, Waterloo Regional Police have charged a 37-year-old male with four counts of break and enter – commit theft.

Masked Gang Assaults School Faculty Member – #MasksR4Criminals

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police has arrested and charged a youth for assault with a weapon at a public school in the city of Kitchener.

On December 19, 2024 a group of youths all wearing face mask entered the school and was asked to leave by faculty. One of the youths grabbed a fire extinguisher from the same facility and discharged it towards the faculty member. The youths then left the school immediately after.

There are no reports of any physical injuries. 

The same group of youths went to a plaza in the area of Westmount Road East and Laurentian Drive. The group began yelling racial slurs at bystanders and assaulted a business owner as they were stealing merchandise. The youths then continued to another business where they caused minor property damage.

Police were able to locate and arrest one youth from this group and charged them with a number of Criminal Code offences and breaches.

Police are still actively seeking to identify the other youths involved in these incidents.

Two Males After a Firearm Trafficking Investigation

Waterloo Region, Ontario  Waterloo Regional Police have arrested two males in connection to a firearms trafficking investigation.

On December 18, 2024, members of the Drugs and Firearms Unit arrested two local males after completing an investigation.

A 32-year-old Cambridge male has been arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

A 47-year-old Kitchener male has been arrested and charged with trafficking a firearm.

Both males were held in police custody for a bail hearing. Two long guns were recovered as a result of the investigation.
