Jordan DESILETS – Drunk Driving

(SUDBURY, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after police responded to a single motor vehicle collision.

On September 22, 2024, at approximately 7:07 a.m., the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle in a ditch on Highway 144, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

No injuries were reported when police attended the scene and arrested the driver for impaired driving, then transported the driver to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jordan DESILETS, 30-years-of-age, from Rayside-Balfour, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 16, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Harold ROBERSTON – Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted officers of a possible suspended driver.

On September 20, 2024, at approximately 9:50 a.m., members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol, and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Goodview Road, in the City of Greater Sudbury, when the ALPPR alerted officers of a suspended driver.

The driver was found to be a prohibited driver and was arrested, as a result of the investigation, Harold ROBERSTON, 67-years-of-age, from Falconbridge, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension – two counts
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 9, 2024, in Sudbury. The vehicle was impounded for 45-days, at the cost of the owner.

All OPP patrol vehicles are equipped with ALPR technology. ALPR has proven to be an effective way to increase the efficiency of discovering and conducting investigations related to both traffic and criminal offences. It does so by detecting licence plates that are linked to occurrences such as wanted or missing persons, stolen vehicles, stolen and unattached plates, suspended/prohibited drivers, vehicles associated with AMBER Alerts and other serious occurrences.

Jagdeep SINGH Was Arrested

(SUDBURYON) – Police arrested and charged one person after conducting a stop with a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)

On September 17, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a CMV travelling west on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

The CMV was reported to be traveling at various speeds and all over the roadway, placing other drivers at risk.

The vehicle was located, and a small amount of drug suspected to be methadone and cocaine was seized.

As a result of the investigation, Jagdeep SINGH, 26 years-of-age, from Lower Sackville, NS, was arrested and charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – two counts
  • Falsify, mutilate or deface any record or document
  • Enter inaccurate information in record
  • Drive after 16 hours since last break without 8 hours off

 The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 16, 2024, in Sudbury.

Chad THIBERT Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after a vehicle ran a stop sign in front of a marked cruiser.

On September 14, 2024, at approximately 5:40 p.m., the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle, which failed to stop at a stop sign at Lavallee Road, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

A search of the vehicle located a digital scale, and drugs suspected to be Methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Chad THIBERT, 33 years-of-age, from Chelmsford, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Traffick in schedule I substance – Methamphetamines
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 9, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Mitchell GAGNER Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – Police arrested and charged a driver with impaired driving related offences, after receiving a 9-1-1 call.

On August 7, 2024, shortly before 12:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, Sudbury.

The vehicle was traveling higher than the posted speed limit and passing vehicles in an unsafe manner

Police located and stopped the vehicle, the driver was arrested for impaired driving and then transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

A search of the vehicle located open liquor and cannabis.

As a result of the investigation, Mitchell GAGNER, 31 years-of-age, from Tupperville, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 4, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

David AUBE Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – A driver was charged with impaired driving after police received a traffic complaint from the public.

On June 29, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, Sudbury.

The vehicle was located and stopped by police. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, David AUBE, 51 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 24, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Jordan ASSINEWE – Drunk Driving, Speeding

(SUDBURY, ON) – A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop for speeding.

On May 4, 2024, shortly before 12:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

A vehicle was stopped for traveling over 125 kilometres an hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jordan ASSINEWE, 33 years-of-age, from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 km/h over posted limit
  • Driver fail to surrender licence

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 5, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Andrew McGREGOR Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop.

On April 13, 2024, shortly before 10:30 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle speeding on Elm Street, in the City of Greater Sudbury

The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew McGREGOR, 38 years-of-age, from Chelmsford, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

1/2 Kilo Cocaine Bust

(SUDBURY, ON) – Two individuals have been charged after a search warrant was executed at a residence on Ontario Street in Sudbury by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG) and the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Team.

The following items were seized:

·      Nearly half a kilogram of cocaine

·      $2,440 in Canadian currency

·      six cell phones

·      drug trafficking paraphernalia

Ayman ABDULKHALIK, 23 of Etobicoke has been charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule 1 substance, cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

·      Failure to comply with a release order – six counts

·      Possession of proceeds of crime

 Kayla LEGREE, 37 of Sudbury has been charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule 1 substance, cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking – two counts

·      Failure to comply with a probation order – two counts

This investigation was supported by the:

·      OPP Canine Unit

·      OPP Emergency Response Team

·      GSPS Intelligence Unit

ABDULKHALIK was held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on April 19, 2024. LEGREE was released from custody and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on May 22, 2024.

Jasmine SHAWANDA – Impaired Driving

(SUDBURY, ON) – One person was arrested and charged for impaired driving after a traffic complaint was reported to police.

On March 15, 2024, shortly after 5:00 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

The vehicle was located by police and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jasmine SHAWANDA, 37 years-of-age, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation
  • Novice driver – presence of drug

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 17, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
