Jasmine LACHINETTE – Impaired Driving

(WHITESAND FIRST NATION, ON) – One individual is facing impaired operation charges in Whitesand First Nation.  

On July 1, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Armstrong Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol in the area of Miigizi Meekana Drive and observed a known suspended driver operating a motor vehicle.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported back to the Armstrong OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Jasmine LACHINETTE, 39-years-old, of Armstrong, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Driving While Under Suspension

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 30, 2024.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Death Investigation Update – Name Released

(WHITESAND FIRST NATION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is conducting a death investigation in the community of Whitesand First Nation.

On June 15, 2024, just after 9:00 p.m., members of the Thunder Bay and Armstrong OPP Detachments and Emergency Medical Services received information regarding an individual in medical distress at a residence in Whitesand First Nation.

The individual was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Stacey SHAPWAYKEESIC of Whitesand First Nation.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto later this week.

The investigation by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit, Regional Support Team, and OPP Forensic Identification Services is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Investigators do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Stacey SHAPWAYKEESIC – Drunk Driving

(WHITESAND FIRST NATION) – A traffic complaint has led to one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation.  

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Armstrong Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver in Whitesand First Nation. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Armstrong OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Stacey SHAPWAYKEESIC, 37-years-old, of Whitesand, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 30, 2024.
