Cynthia BERUBE – Drunk Driving

(MATHESON, ON) – A traffic complaint on Fourth Avenue in Matheson leads to charges.

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Fourth Avenue, in Matheson. 

Police located the vehicle and determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported to a nearby detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Cynthia BERUBE, 58 years-old, of Matheson was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 29, 2025, in Timmins.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education.

Mason EMANS Facing Numerous Charges

(MATHESON, ON) – A traffic complaint on Highway 101 leads to a driver being charged.

On March 17, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 101, in the Town of Matheson. 

As a result of the investigation police seized a suspected amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $40,000. Police also seized a conductive energy weapon and over $2,000 in Canadian currency.

Mason EMANS, 24 years-old, of Holtyre was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order – two counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Use plates not authorized for vehicle
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

The accused remains in custody.

Theft: Kevin MALTAIS & Joel GIROUARD

(MATHESON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested two people for theft of copper wire.

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft in progress on Vimy Ridge Road in Matheson. The suspects fled the scene, however, were located and arrested a short time later.

The investigation revealed one of the suspects was responsible for two other thefts in Matheson which occurred on September 14, 2025, and February 14, 2025. The estimated value of the theft is approximately $50,000.

As a result, Joel GIROUARD, 56 years old, of Rochebaucourt, Quebec was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Theft over 5,000 – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts
  • Mischief over $5,000 – three counts

Kevin MALTAIS, 47 years old, of Point Aux Outardes, Quebec was also charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Mischief over $5,000

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 13, 2025, in Timmins.

Mathieu BLANCHETTE – Impaired Driving

(MATHESON, ON) – The driver of a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) has been charged with impaired driving.

On July 16, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 572, Hislop Township,  when the CMV was stopped.

As a result of the investigation, Mathieu BLANCHETTE, 47 years-old, of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Drive-hand held communication device

The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the CMV was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2024, in Timmins.

Shot Fired – Sylvio THIBEAULT Arrested

(MATHESON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person in relation to a disturbance in Ramore.

On March 24, 2024, shortly before 12:30 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls OPP Detachment responded to a disturbance in Ramore, where one person had discharged a firearm.

As a result of the investigation, Sylvio THIBEAULT, 66 years-old, of Ramore was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous person

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
