(MADOC TWP, ON) – The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Madoc Township.
On Monday, March 3, 2025, officers stopped a car on St. Lawrence Street East after observing damage on the vehicle and an obscured licence plate. The owner did not have insurance or registration paperwork in the vehicle.
Further investigation, and a search of the vehicle, resulted in the discovery of over 30-grams of cannabis, as well as suspected methamphetamine and suspected psilocybin. The officers also located crack pipes, a large knife, shotgun shells and items typically associated to drug trafficking.
Michael ANDREW, age 52 of no fixed address, has been charged with:
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
- Driving with cannabis readily available
- Possession of over 30-grams of dried cannabis in a public place
- Operate a vehicle without insurance
- Failing to surrender a permit for a vehicle
- Failing to surrender a driver’s licence
- Driving with a dirty licence plate
- Fail to comply with a probation order
Patrick FRENCH, age 32 of Central Frontenac Township, has been charged with:
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
Both accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear for bail hearings before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville later today (March 4, 2025).
