Hwy 11 Fatal Collision

(GREENSTONE, ON) – On February 19th, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a collision involving one motor vehicle & one commercial motor vehicle (CMV) along Highway 11, just East of Highway 584.

One individual has been pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. While the investigation remains on-going, there is no evidence to support any charges at this time.

Highway 11 remains closed and the OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team and OPP Technical Collision Re-Constructionists have been engaged.

Fatal Collision On HWY 11

(GREENSTONE, ON) – Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst.

On the 14th of December, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kenora Detachment, along with Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a collision involving two commercial motor vehicles (CMV) on Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst.

As a result, two drivers of separate CMV’s were pronounced deceased. Two separate passengers have sustained injuries and were transported to the local hospital.

Highway 11 has been closed for several hours while the North West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team conducts their investigation. The highway will be closed, with updates to be provided when it is reopened.

Fatal Collision Closed Hwy 11

(GREENSTONE, ON) – The Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 6:40 p.m., members of the Greenstone OPP Detachment and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 at mile marker 1062.

One passenger from motor vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another passenger was transported to hospital by EMS to be treated for serious injuries.

The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and OPP Collision Re-Constructionists are assisting in the investigation as it remains ongoing.

Highway 11 was closed for a long period of time but was since re-opened at approximately 5:00 a.m., on August 30, 2024.

Maikayla BURT – Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE, ON) – Impaired operation charges have been laid following a traffic stop.

On July 19, 2024, just before 12:30 a.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Main Street in the Municipality of Greenstone.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Maikayla BURT, 25-years-old, of Hannon, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on August 15, 2024.

Kelsey GAGNON – Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE, ON) – One individual is facing a lengthy list of charges following a traffic complaint.

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspect impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle on First Street East in the Municipality of Greenstone and initiated a traffic stop.  

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported back to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Kelsey GAGNON, 28-years-old, of Aroland First Nation, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

·        Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plates

·        Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

·        Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on July 25, 2024.

Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC Arrested For Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE) – One individual is facing impaired charges following a R.I.D.E program in Greenstone.

On March 16, 2024, just before 12:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E program in the area of Highway 584 in the Municipality of Greenstone. A vehicle approached the program, and the driver was requested to provide a breath sample.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC, 28-years-old, of Geraldton, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Cannabis Control Act with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on April 18, 2024.

Drivers are reminded that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows police with an approved alcohol screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without having reasonable suspicion that a driver is alcohol impaired.

Lance MCMAHON – Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE) – A R.I.D.E program has led to one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation.

On March 8, 2024, just before 10:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E program in the area of Michael Power Boulevard in the Municipality of Greenstone. A driver approached the program and was requested to provide a breath sample.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing. 

As a result, Lance MCMAHON, 36-years-old, of Geraldton, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Liquor Licence and Control Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·        Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on April 18, 2024.

BAILEY Arrested For Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE) – A traffic complaint has resulted in one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation.

On February 27, 2024, just before 3:30 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver on Third Avenue Southwest in Geraldton. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Jay BAILEY, 67-years-old, of Geraldton has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on April 18, 2024.
