Ryan GRIFFIN Was Arrested

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a driver with Impaired Operation (Over 80) after a traffic investigation early Saturday morning.

Just after 2:00am March 22, 2025 an officer with the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP observed a white sedan driving eastbound on Mountain Road in the Town of Collingwood. The vehicle was stopped on Tenth Line near Mountain Road and the officer conducted a roadside impaired driving investigation. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Collingwood OPP Detachment for breathalyzer tests to be obtained.

Ryan GRIFFIN, 24 years of age, of Collingwood was released on an undertaking, charged with Impaired Operation (80 Plus). He was served with a 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood at a future date.   

Police remind the public that impaired drivers put our community at risk and our officers continue to actively look for drivers who drive while impaired, including conducting RIDE spot checks all year round. Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP conducted an additional 6 RIDE spot checks over this past weekend. If you plan on consuming drugs or alcohol, plan to have a designated driver, call a friend, a taxi or rideshare to arrange transportation to get you home safely. 4 Arrested Following Break & Enters – MAIN, PLATER, ROBERTSON & TAYLOR

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant at a residence in Innisfil in the early morning hours of February 20, 2025. Police have recovered illegal firearms, stolen vehicles, and property stolen from numerous Break and enters in Collingwood and Clearview Township over the past several months, four people have been arrested.

In January 2025 Collingwood OPP received a complaint that a male was driving a stolen motor vehicle and was in possession of firearms, the complaint was forwarded to Collingwood CSCU who initiated an investigation. In the early morning hours of February 20, 2025 Collingwood CSCU, assisted by uniform members of the Collingwood OPP, Huronia West OPP, Southern Georgian Bay detachment CSCU, Nottawasaga detachment CSCU, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) executed search warrants at two residences in Innisfil and arrested 4 people. As a result, police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, two rifles, police and corrections uniform patches, and other property related to numerous break and enters in Collingwood and Clearview Township during the fall of 2024.

As a result of the investigation, the following people have been charged:

Kyle MAIN, 36 years of age, of Collingwood has been charged with:

·      Possess Firearm and ammunition contrary to Prohibition order – three counts

·      Fail to comply with release order

·      Possession of property obtained by crime – four counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

·      Careless storage of a firearm – two counts

·      possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – two counts

·      Possession of a restricted firearm

·      Possession of a prohibited firearm

·      Unauthorised possession of a Firearm – two counts

·      Unauthorized possession of a weapon

·      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – four counts

·      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon

·      Possession of a loaded restricted firearm

Nathan PLATER, 27 years of age, of Innisfil has been charged with:

·      Possess Firearm and ammunition contrary to Prohibition order – three counts

·      Fail to comply with release order

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

·      Careless storage of a firearm

·      Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·      Possession of a prohibited firearm

·      Unauthorized possession of a firearm – two counts

William ROBERTSON, 26 years of age, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

·      Fail to comply with release order – two counts

·      Careless storage of a firearm

·      Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·      Possession of prohibited firearm

·      Unauthorised possession of a firearm – two counts

·      Unauthorized possession of a weapon

·      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – three counts

·      Knowledgw of unauthorized possession of a weapon

Jennalee TAYLOR, 33 years of age, of Alcona has been charged with:

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 – three counts

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

·      Careless storage of a firearm

·      Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·      Possession of a restricted firearm

·      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm

·      Possession of a loaded restricted firearm

All of the accused were held in custody for a bail appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood, on a future date.

Collingwood Impaired Driving Investigation leads to Police Pursuit, Two Drivers Arrested

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Just before 11:30 pm on the evening of February 13th, 2025 members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver.  The vehicle with a female driver and male passenger was last seen leaving a parking lot headed southbound on Balsam Street in the Town of Collingwood, ON.

While enroute, officers received an update that the vehicle had returned to the parking lot.  The male passenger exited the suspect vehicle and got into the driver’s side of another vehicle that was in the parking lot. Both vehicles then departed in different directions. Officers then split off in search of the male driving a black Chevy Silverado and the female driving a Chevy Trax.

Police located the Silverado westbound on Highway 26 in the Blue Mountains area near the Craigleith Provincial Park. During the traffic stop, the officer attempted to arrest the driver for impaired operation but the Silverado took off westbound on Highway 26 towards the Village of Thornbury, ON.  A Suspect Apprehension Pursuit was initiated by the officer with several police units converging on the location.

The Silverado was intercepted by police a few minutes later and boxed in near the intersection of Highway 40 and Grey Road 2 near Thornbury, ON.  The male driver attempted to flee a second time by ramming one of the police cruisers.  At this point, officers effected a gun point arrest.  The male, identified as 48-year-old Jody Smits, was then taken into custody without further incident.  No officers were injured during the incident and the police cruiser incurred minor damage.  During the investigation, police determined that Smit was in violation of 7 driving prohibitions under the Criminal Code and 1 driving suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.

Meanwhile, the second involved vehicle, the Chevy Trax, was spotted by police in the West side of Collingwood travelling eastbound on Highway 26.  The Trax was stopped by police without incident and the 43-year-old female driver was arrested for impaired driving.  In addition, the female, identified as Jacquelynne Thorpe-Stewart of New Lowell, was found to be in possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance.

Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP held Smits in custody pending a bail hearing in Owen Sound court. Smit has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation – Criminal Code s320.13(1)
  • Flight From Peace Officer – Criminal Code s320.17
  • Operation while Impaired – Criminal Code s320.14(1)(a)
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – Criminal Code s320.14(1)(b)
  • 7 counts of Operation while Prohibited – Criminal Code s320.18(1)(a)
  • 1 count Driving while under Suspension – Highway Traffic Act s53(1)

Thorpe-Stewart was released from custody charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Criminal Code s 32.14(1)(a)
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – Criminal Code s320.14(1)(b)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Control Drugs and Substances Act s4(1)

One From Wasaga Beach Arrested

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On February 05, 2025, a citizen reported a possible impaired driver to the Ontario Provincial Police. The incident happened in the East end of the Town of Collingwood around 4:00 pm. The driver, it was reported, was in a Ford Escape driving with the hatch open and had committed several traffic violations.

An officer of the Collingwood OPP responded and found the vehicle halfway into a snowbank at Beachwood Road and Bellholme Lane. Further investigation led to the officer arresting the female driver for impaired driving.

55-year-old Rhonda Norlander of Wasaga Beach, ON has been charged with:

·        Failure or Refusal to comply with Demand (Criminal Code)

·        Having care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available (Cannabis Control Act)

·        Fail to Yield to Traffic (Highway Traffic Act)

The motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days, and the accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 18th, 2025

3 More Impaired Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(Collingwood, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three different drivers with a total of eight offences over the weekend as result of impaired driving.

On January 19, 2025 Collingwood OPP conducted a traffic stop just before 7:00 PM on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction on Spruce Street in Collingwood. The officer immediately detected an odour of alcohol from the breath of the driver which initiated an impaired driving investigation. A roadside test with an approved screening device resulted in a fail. The female driver was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment where she was charged after producing results more than twice the legal limit.

Dakotah Leblond, 38 year-old from Wasaga Beach was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Entire plate not plainly visible
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

On January 19, 2025 just before 6:00 AM a Blue Mountain resident near Tyrolean Lane reported that a vehicle had run through a stop sign at a nearby intersection and then collided with his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. The driver became stuck in a snowbank. Blue Mountain OPP attended and located a male asleep in the driver seat. He was arrested at the scene.

Daniel Zacarelli, 39 year-old from York was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

On January 17, 2025 just before 3:00 PM members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP were dispatched to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle that was described travelling on Arthur Street West in Thornbury. During the traffic stop an approved screening device test was conducted and the male driver produced a fail. Further investigation found the individual to be driving with a suspended licence.

George Muller, 74 year-old male from Thornbury was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

Each were served a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension, 7-day vehicle impoundment and an appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

32 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On January 10, 2025, just before 11:00 pm, members of the Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police responded to a cell phone crash notification. The single vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of First Street and Pine street in the Town of Collingwood. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the vehicle had destroyed the centre traffic light. As a result of the investigation, the Novice driver was arrested for impaired driving. Blood alcohol content was approximately two and a half times the legal limit.

33-yr-old Rodrigo LAVIA MARINHO of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs (Criminal Code)
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus (Criminal Code)
  • Novice drive – blood alcohol concentration above zero (Highway Traffic Act)

The male driver faces a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and a 7-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 11th, 2025.

Ditch Drunk Driver Arrested

(Collingwood, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of Collingwood Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics responded to a report of a motor vehicle that had flipped into a ditch in the Town of Collingwood.

On January 9, 2025 just after 1:30 AM Collingwood OPP were dispatched for a single motor vehicle into a ditch off Connell Street and Pretty River Parkway South. Due to the motor vehicle’s position on its roof the driver, who was the lone occupant, was extricated by Collingwood Fire Department before being transported to Collingwood General & Marine Hospital by EMS. The driver emerged from the incident with only minor injuries.

Officers were then led into an impaired driving investigation as there was suspicion the driver had consumed alcohol. At which point the driver was not co-operative with police.

Connor CADARET, 31 year-old male from Whitchurch-Stouffville was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand – Criminal Code of Canada S 320.15(1)

In addition to the charge the driver received a 90-day drivers licence suspension and a 7-day motor vehicle impoundment.

Arrests Made In Christmas Thefts

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Between December 24th and 26th, 2024, officers of the Ontario Provincial Police investigated numerous thefts that occurred in the Town of Collingwood. Several items were taken from unlocked vehicles including gift cards, cash, bank cards and tools.  At one point during their bout of theft, suspects stole a vehicle & used stolen cards to pay for fuel. In total, 19 incidents were investigated.

As a result of evidence gathered by the Collingwood OPP and with the public’s assistance, 2 male suspects were identified. On duty officers then located the 2 males while patrolling the streets of Collingwood. One male fled on foot as officers initiated the arrest of the second male. One officer was assault during the arrest but was not injured. The second suspect was located a short time later and arrested without incident.

In total, 37 criminal charges were laid by police and outstanding warrants were executed. Among the charges laid were;

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Take Motor Vehicle without consent
  • Use of Credit Card
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Proceeds obtained by Crime
  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Flight from Police

Charged are 33-year-old Richard Asselstine of Orillia, ON and 30-year-old William Cook of Collingwood, ON.    Both males were held in custody pending a bail hearing today, December 27th, 2024.

Passed Out In Snowbank Results In Impaired Charge

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On December 22, 2024, at 11:00 pm, members of Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a vehicle on the front yard of residence in Collingwood.  Officers attended Kirby Avenue and found the vehicle in a snowbank between the roadway and sidewalk. The vehicle was facing the opposite direction to the lane of travel. Officers then located a male asleep behind the wheel. Further investigation led police to arrest the male for impaired driving and impound the motor vehicle. Several charges were laid by OPP including the refusal to comply with a breath demand contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code.

Additionally, 21-year-old Abhishek KUMAR of Scarborough has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs (Criminal Code)

·        Unsafe move – lane/shoulder (Highway Traffic)

·        Fail to surrender licence (Highway Traffic)

·        Fail to surrender permit (Highway Traffic)

·         

The accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on January 28th, 2025.

24 Year Old Facing Impaired Charge

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On the afternoon of December 12, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for service about a male sitting in a motor vehicle parked in a public lot.

The officers of the Collingwood OPP located the vehicle and investigated the male driver for drug impairment. Ultimately, the 24-year-old Collingwood resident was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drug (Criminal Code)
  • Having Care or Control of a motor vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
  • Having Care or Control of vehicle/boat with cannabis in open baggage

A KANWARDEEP SINGH was released from custody and is set to appear in Collingwood court on January 21st, 2025.
