Two individuals are facing multiple criminal charges following a break and enter investigation at a hydro compound in Howard Township during the early morning hours of September 8.
At approximately 2:11 a.m., a Hydro One security employee observed two suspects inside a secured hydro compound and contacted police.
Responding officers quickly established containment around the property and deployed the Chatham-Kent Police Service drone to assist in locating the suspects. Through the coordinated efforts of officers and the drone operator, one suspect was located within the compound and taken into custody without incident.
A second suspect was observed fleeing into a nearby tree line and successfully concealed his location. As a result, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Canine Unit was called to assist. Following a search of the area, the police service dog located the suspect hiding within the wooded area, leading to his arrest.
A pickup truck believed to be associated with the incident was also located concealed behind vegetation near the scene.
A 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from Chatham-Kent, have each been charged with:
- Break and Enter and Commit Mischief Over $5,000
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to recognize the efforts of patrol officers, drone operators, and the Canine Unit for their coordinated response, which resulted in the successful apprehension of both suspects.
