On Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, shortly before 8:00 a.m. the Stratford Police Service Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed travelling 97km/h in a posted 50km/h zone on O’Loane Avenue in the City of Stratford.
As a result of the stop a 41-year-old resident of Stratford was charged with Stunt Driving. The driver received an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14-days.
In Ontario, stunt driving charges can be laid when a driver is travelling 40 or more km/h over the speed limit, where the speed limit is less than 80km/h.
This stop occurred as students were beginning to travel to their first day of school and were beginning to arrive at the two nearby high schools in the City of Stratford. With school buses travelling on this route along with many young drivers travelling to the two schools, speeds of this nature put everyone at risk of harm.
The Stratford Police Service encourages everyone to slow down and use caution while driving, especially while travelling in and around school zones.
