Violent Park Attack Sparks Warning About Youth Crime

Two teens were arrested after Barrie Police were called to Lampman Lane Park in Letitia Heights around 6 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026.

According to witnesses, two males, ages 16 and 12, were at the park when they were approached by a group of male youths, some of whom they knew from school. An argument broke out, which escalated into a physical altercation. The 12-year-old ran home to alert his father, who attended the park and was surrounded by the group of youths who became increasingly aggressive.

Two males from the group repeatedly punched the 36-year-old man, prompting the 16-year-old to try to intervene. At this time, one of the males who was wearing a black balaclava, reportedly pulled out a drywall saw. He then chased the 16-year-old, pushing him to the ground.

Officers arrived quickly to find the group had left the area. Several witnesses provided descriptions of those involved and pointed police in the direction of a catwalk near Shakespeare Crescent where the youths were seen heading.

Several suspects involved in the incident were detained by police. While canvassing the area, officers recovered a sheath believed to have been from the weapon and a balaclava. The weapon itself was not located.

The victims all sustained minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, two teens were charged. A 14-year-old male is charged with assault (x2), while a 15-year-old male is charged with assault (x2), assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and disguise with intent.

The identities of the youths involved are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Barrie Police remind the public and media partners not to post or share identifying details of youths involved in criminal incidents. Under the YCJA, publicly posting or sharing a young offender’s name, photo, school, or other distinguishing details is a serious offence. These restrictions apply to social media, digital publications, and broadcasting.
