Mississauga, ON (11 June, 2026) — The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding an exchange of gunfire that occurred this morning in North York. The exchange of gunfire resulted in one man being seriously injured, and an officer dying.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- At approximately 5:40 a.m. on June 11, 2026, Emergency Task Force officers with the Toronto Police Service attended a building on Martha Eaton Way to execute several search warrants in connection with shootings in the city.
- Officers made their way to a 4th floor apartment unit.
- Inside the unit, a man discharged his firearm at an officer, and the officer was struck. A second officer then discharged his firearm at the man, resulting in the man being struck multiple times.
- The man and the struck officer were both transported to hospital.
- The officer succumbed to his injuries. The man remains in hospital in critical condition.
Six investigators and four forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
