SIU Investigating After Police Use Shotgun

Mississauga, ON (14 June, 2026) — The province’s Special Investigations Unit is after a 26-year-old man was seriously injured after he was shot with a less-lethal shotgun in the course of his arrest by Toronto Police Service officers this morning.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • At approximately 10:30 a.m. on June 14, 2026, officers were called to the Centenary hospital in Scarborough for a man brandishing a sharp-edged weapon.
  • Officers negotiated with the man and one officer discharged a less-lethal shotgun at the man. The man was diagnosed with a serious, non-life-threatening injury and admitted to hospital.

Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
