(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an incident at Warkworth Institution.
On January 30, 2026, it was reported that a visitor at the facility refused to leave and kicked a door causing injury to a Correctional Officer. The member of staff was later transported to a local hospital for non-serious injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit took one person into custody on March 16.
Maryan MAHAMED (32) from Scarborough, has been charged with:
· Assault a peace officer with a weapon.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April, 2026.
