(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two Town of Orangeville residents with impaired operation-related offences following two separate incidents.
On March 4, 2026, at approximately 8:56 a.m., Dufferin OPP officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 10 in the Town of Mono. Officers observed a vehicle of interest and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation.
Kurtis JOHNSON, a 42-year-old male from Orangeville, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On March 4, 2026, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check in the area of Townline in the Town of Orangeville. A vehicle entered the area and was stopped by officers. After a brief conversation with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation.
Brian MURPHY, a 36-year-old male from Orangeville, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and both vehicles were impounded.
The Dufferin OPP reminds motorists that alcohol and speed are a deadly combination. Plan ahead if you are consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, taxi, rideshare, public transit, or arrange to stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair your judgment and reaction time. In a split second, poor decisions can result in tragedy.
