Weapon Bust – Nicholas HAMMOND

(PENETANGUISHENE, ON) The Southern Georgian Bay OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have seized a gun and ammunition following an investigation into the illegal possession of a firearm in the Town of Penetanguishene that commenced in January 2026.

On the morning of January 22, 2026, an individual was arrested while exiting a shopping centre in the Town of Penetanguishene. Later the same day, at noon, uniform members assisted CSCU in executing a search warrant at a residence on Peel Street in Penetanguishene.

During the search, officers seized the following items(see photo):

  • One sawed-off double-barreled shotgun
  • Approximately 16 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition
  • Approximately 120 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition
  • Approximately 123 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition

As a result of the investigation, Nicholas HAMMOND, 35 years of Penetanguishene, has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Breach of Firearms Regulations – Careless Storage

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled to occur on January 23, 2026 before the Ontario Court of Justice.
