Huron County, ON) – Winter’s arrival is imminent and being prepared for it takes a great deal of the worry away.
The Huron OPP would like to remind the public of some tips to prepare for the Winter Driving experience.
Getting Ready to Go – a Winter Driving Kit for your car
o A bag of sand, salt or kitty litter in the trunk for traction if you get stuck
o Keep a small shovel (collapsible if possible) in the trunk if you get stuck
o A set of booster cables for emergencies (and know how to use them)
o Road flares for emergencies
o A warm blanket, extra gloves and a toque or winter hat in the car (for long trips have winter footwear, windproof pants and extra clothing in a waterproof bag)
o A candle used in a can or jar for safety, a snack such as a granola bar
o A cell phone, flashlight and first aid kit
o A membership with an emergency road service organization like CAA always helps
Travel in the winter should be no more difficult than any other season and bad weather should be expected. When you’re prepared for the worst, everything else is easy.
Be Prepared and Drive Safe.
