(KINCARDINE, ON.) – On January 13, 2010, the South Bruce OPP received an attempted fraud complaint from the Paisley area. A man phoned to offer a device from Hydro One that plugs into a receptacle to measure energy usage, which could help save money. The device was offered at no cost, but a $100 deposit was required. The Paisley resident became suspicious and refused the device. A call to Hydro One confirmed they have no involvement with this energy measuring device. The South Bruce OPP would like to warn the public to be cautious about special offers by phone, mail or email. An offer that sounds too good to be true likely is. Be extra careful with a limited time offer that requires you to act immediately or winning a contest that you didn’t enter in the first place.
