In more than a half dozen incidents in Howick Township and the surrounding area, Huron OPP officers dealt with a residential break in where a stolen vehicle was recovered after it was left at the scene. Police also investigated four incidents of Theft of Motor Vehicle all with the keys left inside the vehicle. We also responded to reports of a stolen ATV, a stolen snowmobile and a snowmobile trailer. In some cases, vehicles had been stolen from neighbouring counties and recovered here.
Although vehicles do get stolen when they are locked and the keys have been secured, the majority of stolen vehicles in this area have been left unlocked with the keys conveniently in the ignition.
