(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 1, 2020 at 8:25 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a white sport utility vehicle (suv) for speeding, southbound on Highway 6, near Limberlost Road, in South Bruce Peninsula, ON.
The driver was currently a suspended G2 novice driver, with a mandatory Ignition Interlock condition for any vehicle that they operate.
OPP officers detected alcohol on their breath and conducted a roadside screening test. The result was a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test, conducted by a qualified Breath Technician, recorded almost twice the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Adam COSSMAN, 34 years-of-age, from Concord, ON with the following offences:
operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mg or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC
speeding (1 to 49 kilometres over the posted speed limit), section 128 Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
driving while under suspension, section 53(1) HTA
drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device, Ontario Regulation 287 HTA
This vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 45 days and the accused received a 90 day driver’s licence suspension.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 12, 2020.
