MATACHEWAN, ON.) – On February 6, 2020, members of the Crime Unit from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Child Exploitation Unit, Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS), the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and the North East Regional Support Team responded to a report of Luring in the Town of Matachewan.
As a result of the investigation, William MATHEWS, 29 years-old, from Temiskaming Shores, was arrested on March 31, 2020 and charged with the following:
Luring a Person Under 18 Years of Age by means of Telecommunication, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Possession of Child Pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4) of the CC, and
Fail to Comply with Prohibition Regarding Children, contrary to section 161(4) of the CC. (Two Counts)
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on June 4, 2020.
