(HURON EAST, ON) – A 33-year-old from London is facing an Impaired Operation charge following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On Thursday, March 12, 2020 shortly before 2:00 a.m. a Huron OPP officer observed a crossover utility vehicle heading northbound on Main Street South in Seaforth with an expired validation sticker. A traffic stop was conducted and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver was displaying some signs that he was under the influence of a drug. A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) test was conducted and the driver performed poorly. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Walkerton OPP Detachment for further examination. A test conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) was conducted and it was determined the driver was impaired by a drug.
Further investigation also revealed the vehicle was not insured.
Michael WILSON, 33 years of age, from London has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Operate a Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
