21 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving, Drive While Suspended & No Insurance Charges

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A young driver from Central Huron has been arrested and charged with several driving related offences following a traffic stop that occurred late last month near Brucefield.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on December 27, 2019 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed the driver of a pickup truck travelling northbound on London Road in an erratic manner. The officer was able to successfully stop the pickup and while he was speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. Additionally, open containers of alcohol were observed inside the vehicle. A roadside screening test was subsequently conducted and the driver registered a fail.

He was promptly arrested for Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Both of his samples provided to the Intoxilizer Technician were found to be over the legal limit.

Further investigation revealed the driver was a suspended driver, the pickup was not insured and he was using unauthorized licence plates on the vehicle.

Keith POORTINGA, 21 years of age, from Central Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Driving While Under Suspension, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor.
