20 Year Old From Huron East Arrested For Impaired Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A Huron East resident will have to answer to an Impaired Operation charge in court later this month after he was arrested and charged at the end of December.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 Huron County & Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver operating a car in an erratic manner.

Officers began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and a short time later officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Union Line north of Kirkton. Upon speaking with the male driver officers suspected the driver was under the influence of a drug. A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted and the driver performed poorly. As such, he was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for an evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). An evaluation was conducted and it was determined by the DRE the driver was impaired by a drug.

David SHEWAN, 20 years of age, from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Operation. The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 30, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.
