One Dead – Levi Michael LAWSON Arrested

One person has been charged after human remains were discovered over the weekend.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers located a deceased individual in the area of the 800 block of Finlayson Street and the 400 block of McKellar Street North on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14.

The Thunder Bay Police Service will not be publicly releasing the identity of the individual at this time.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit became involved in the investigation.

A suspect was arrested by members of the Major Crimes Unit and Intelligence Unit on Tuesday, December 17.

Levi Michael LAWSON, 24, is charged with Indignity to a Human Body.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date of December 23, 2024.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Found Human Remains Update

(MCDOUGALL, ON) – Police have determined the identity of the human remains discovered in McDougall Township.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found human remains on a property on Avro Arrow Road. The human remains have been identified as a 56-year-old female reported missing to the York Regional Police (YRP) on August 9, 2024.

The investigation is being led by YRP, with support from the OPP including the Criminal Investigation Branch, West Parry Sound Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services and the North East Regional Support Team. Additional information on the YRP-led investigation can be accessed on the YRP website.

Human Remains Recovered

(CLARENCE-ROCKLAND, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after human remains were located in the Ottawa River in Clarence-Rockland.

An individual, fishing at the boat launch on Edwards Street, called the OPP around 10:30 a.m. on April 15, 2024, to report sighting what appeared to be human remains.

OPP officers, assisted by the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department, attended the location and recovered the remains.

An investigation by the Russell County OPP and Russell County OPP Crime Unit, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, is underway, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted.

While the investigation is in the early stages, the OPP does not believe there is any concern for public safety.
