(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic stop in Kapuskasing for excessive smoke, led to the driver being charged for impaired driving.
On July 19, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing, on a pickup truck that was generating a large amount of black exhaust smoke.
Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Hayden GAGNON, 21 years of age of Smooth Rock Falls, was charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
· Unreasonable smoke
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued an additional 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
