(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Detachment would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a weekly release.

On November 21, 2022, at approximately 3:55 a.m., an officer with the Elgin County OPP (Chatham Detachment) stopped a passenger vehicle for speeding on the Eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
The investigating officer administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering a warning.
The driver, 43-year-old of Stoney Creek, Ontario was charged with Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit and issued a Three-Day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS).

On November 21, 2022, at approximately 10:59 a.m., an officer with the Elgin County OPP stopped a passenger vehicle to verify the insurance status on John Wise Line, Municipality of Central Elgin.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, 50-year-old of St. Thomas, Ontario was charged with the following:
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

On November 23, 2022, at approximately 11:44 p.m., members of the Elgin County OPP conducted a Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Carlow Road, Municipality of Central Elgin.
A vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers suspected that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage.
A 46-year-old of Port Stanley, Ontario was issued a Three-day driver’s licence suspension for registering an Alert on the roadside Alcohol Screening Device (ASD).

On November 24, 2022, at approximately 9:35 p.m., an officer with the Elgin County OPP stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on Wellington Road, Municipality of Central Elgin, for speeding.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, 25-year-old of St. Thomas, Ontario was charged with the following:
- Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit
- Driving while under suspension

On November 25, 2022, at approximately 9:38 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP (Chatham Detachment) responded to a two-vehicle collision, involving a transport truck and a passenger vehicle, on St. Clair Road at Electric Line, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
The road was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the collision was investigated.
The driver and lone occupant of passenger vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the transport truck was uninjured.
As a result of the investigation, the driver of the passenger vehicle, 70-year-old of Windsor, Ontario was charged with Disobey stop sign – fail to stop.

On November 27, 2022, at approximately 3:29 a.m., an officer with the Elgin County OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Furnival Road, Municipality of West Elgin after the vehicle was observed traveling significantly below the speed limit.
The investigating officer administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test.
The driver, 19-year-old of Iona Station, Ontario was charged with Young driver – B.A.C. above zero and issued a Three-Day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS).
