2 More Drivers Arrested

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Two local drivers are facing Criminal Code (CC) charges after members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently investigated two separate incidents.

On June 19, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.   

As a result of this incident Donald ITEKA, age 26 of Petawawa, was charged with the following CC offence:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 9, 2024. They had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

On June 20, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Eganville Road in Pembroke after an alert was received from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) integrated with the police cruiser’s In-Car Camera (ICC).

As a result of this investigation 39-year-old Ashley RUSSELL of Bonnechere Valley Township is charged with the following CC offence:

•          Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 9, 2024, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days. 

The ALPR system can read thousands of licence plates per minute allowing officers to process more information on licence plates. It also has the capability of capturing vehicles of interest such as Amber Alerts, drivers with a suspended licence and stolen vehicles.
