18 Year Old Arrested In Clinton Facing Impaired By Drug Charge

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A novice driver from Clinton is facing an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) last night in Clinton. 

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on January 25, 2021 a Huron County OPP officer stopped a vehicle with no rear lights that was travelling northbound on Albert Street. Upon stopping the motor vehicle the investigating officer noted the driver to be exhibiting signs of impairment. As such a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted on the driver and the driver performed poorly on the test.

The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he performed further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Upon completion of the testing the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug. 

A search of the motor vehicle was also conducted which resulted in police seizing a prohibited weapon (knife) and a quantity of cannabis. 

Austin PASSMORE, 18 years of age from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Possession of a Prohibited Device, Drive Motor Vehicle With Cannabis Readily Available and Drive Without Proper Rear Light.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 29, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
