Shuter Street Collision Ends With Impaired Charge For Winghamite

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A Wingham resident is facing impaired driving charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) this past weekend in Wingham.

On Saturday, January 23, 2021 at approximately 12:14 p.m. Huron County OPP was notified of a crash involving the driver of a pickup truck that reversed into an unoccupied vehicle that was parked on Shuter Street. The suspect driver initially left the scene however he returned to the scene shortly thereafter where he was spoken to by police.

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer made a demand for the suspect driver to provide a sample of his breath into the roadside screening device. The driver complied and registered a fail. The driver was also observed to be displaying some signs of impairment thus he was arrested for impaired operation.

The accused was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be above the legal limit.

William DARLING, 64 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
