(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of London with Operation While Impaired and several other criminal charges following an automobile crash investigated by police this past weekend.
On Sunday, July 31, 2022, at approximately 5:08 p.m. Huron County OPP officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Mill Road and Parr Line. Upon arrival officers learned the accused had rear-ended a pickup truck at the intersection. While speaking with the accused the investigating officer also made some observations that led him to believe the accused was impaired by a drug.
As such a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) test was completed and the driver performed poorly. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) completed further testing. The driver was ultimately deemed to be impaired by a drug and was charged.
During the course of the investigation the accused obstructed the police investigation by providing a false name and date of birth to the officers. Additionally, a search of the vehicle revealed the driver to be in possession of suspected fentanyl.
Stacey SCAMAN, 41 years of age from London has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Obstruct Peace Officer, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid, Failure to Comply with Undertaking – 2 counts and Dangerous Operation. The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 12, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
