(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh resident with several criminal offences following a traffic stop on Wednesday May 31st.
Huron County OPP were contacted by several concerned citizens who reported traffic complaints for a white pickup truck in the Town of Wingham, Township of North Huron just before midnight on Tuesday May 30th, 2023, Police patrolled in the area of the complaints and observed a pickup truck matching the complainant’s description. The subject vehicle was caught on radar exceeding the speed limit on Josephine Street in Wingham, then stopped by officers at 12:30 a.m. on May 31st.
Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. The driver provided a roadside breath sample into the Approved Screening Device (ASD), which resulted in a failure. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests before an OPP qualified breath technician.
Eldon WOOD, 22 years of age from Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh Twp has been charged with:
– Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,
– Operation while Impaired – Over 80,
– Possession of a Controlled Substance – Schedule I – Cocaine.
The accused was also charged with additional offences found in the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.
The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
