(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) and Dangerous Operation following a single vehicle collision into a farm field and a failed roadside test on June 27th, 2023.
On June 27th at 6:00 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision into a field on Hern Line near McDonald Road in the Municipality of South Huron. The lone driver was reportedly travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control of their vehicle, struck a road sign, and entered a farm field, where the vehicle came to rest. The driver departed the scene but was located soon after at a nearby residence. Police spoke with the driver which led to the investigating officer conducting a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest.
The accused was transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment and provided two suitable breath samples to the Intoxilyzer Technician. Both breath tests were found to be over double the legal limit.
Cathy PAVKEJE, 56 years of age from South Huron has been charged with:
– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus),
– Dangerous Operation.
The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) for failing to remain at the scene of the collision.
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.
The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 14th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
